I started out with writing some initial thoughts down. Then I did some research on myself by taking a personality quiz. It was very useful in helping me define some key characteristics that I have.
I latched on to key words I found particularly accurate or interesting and started a word map. I tend to try and let my mind wander down rabbit holes no matter how strange they might get. Once I can't think of anything else on that path of thought I go back to the initial word and branch off again. When I'm finished making the map I look for connections between words and ideas to form a concept.
In my initial sketches I tried to connect letter forms to convey the idea of fluidity.
I tried sketching another idea that also had to do with water. This idea was more about refraction and the idea that there is a lot going on under the surface - there is alot going on in my head and in the background that most people don't initially see.
This is when I started getting close to the final sketch and begin work in illustrator. I simplified my sketches by only using two letters. All my life my nickname has been Mo.
I uploaded the final sketch you see here into illustrator and traced it multiple times. I then manipulated and simplified the mark to get my final logo you see on the right.
This is a variation of my final brandmark. It represents fluidity and dynamism. It is also light and sunny like me!
